The agouti has a coarse brown to dark brown fur. They have a short-tail and small round ears. They live in the rainforests of Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. These plant-eating rodents feed on fruit, nuts, seeds, leaves and roots. Females give birth to one or two well-developed newborns. The agouti's predators include the jaguar, ocelot, eagles, large snakes and humans. These mammals have a life span of 13 to 20 years.
