Glenn Cunningham was born in Atlanta, Kansas in 1912. As a senior in high school, Cunningham said the United States interscholastic mile record. In 1934 while at Princeton University Glenn set the world's record for the mile. In the 1936, Olympic games in Berlin Glenn finished second in the 1500-meter race. Then in 1938 at Dartmouth College cunningham shattered his own worlds indoor record for the mile. Glenn Cunningham was known as the "Master Mile Runner". He retired from racing competitions in 1940.
